Flat-Coated Retriever - Short description ...

The Flat-Coated Retriever is a docile, attentive and active working dog who can not only prove his outstanding qualities in hunting. Originally he was bred as an apportier specialist; This is still his passion today. The Flat-Coated Retriever has all the features to be used in a wide variety of terrain types. His weather insensitivity, speed and good comprehension make him a valuable working dog and an ideal companion of humans.

Within the family, one appreciates his gentle, good-natured retriever with commendable character. His affection, combined with a cheerful and balanced nature, make him a pleasant house dog. He shows a patient and almost friendly relationship with children. For a skilled hand, thanks to his quick wit and his tireless will to work, he is quickly trained and educated to become a lively and motivated dog, who gratefully and willingly carries out his tasks.

The Flat-Coated Retriever is medium in size and strong, but should not be cumbersome or overly slim. Its elegant appearance is emphasized by the long, flat head of medium width with only slight stop. The eyes are medium sized, dark brown or hazel. The black or liver-colored coat of the flat is smooth, medium-length and dense with a feathering on the runs and the tail.
